Enjoy Lunch at San Miguel Sanctuary

Our journey begins at the Sanctuary of San Miguel de Aralar, one of Navarra’s oldest and most iconic landmarks. Here, we discover the legend of the dragon and the knight, a story that has been linked to the sanctuary for centuries. We admire its extraordinary 12th-century enamel altarpiece, a masterpiece of medieval European art, and experience the unique atmosphere of a site that has attracted pilgrims for more than a thousand years.

The route continues to Lekunberri, a village that has preserved the essence of its past. Among its historic indiano houses and peaceful streets, we explore how this former medieval crossroads evolved into a welcoming mountain retreat. From here, we embark on a scenic hike into the surrounding hills, surrounded by forests and sweeping views of the valley.

Deep within the forest, we experience the txalaparta, a traditional Basque percussion instrument. Guided by a local musician, we learn its distinctive twin rhythm and discover how its sound was once used as a means of communication between the region’s farmhouses.

The day concludes with a gourmet lunch at a restaurant renowned for serving one of the finest Menú del Día experiences in Gipuzkoa. This three-course meal, prepared with locally sourced ingredients, combines tradition with modern cuisine and provides the perfect ending to a day filled with history, nature, and Basque culture.
